There have been several holes-in-one at the Yellowknife Golf Club over the years. As of Canada Day, there had already been two in 2025 alone.
You can add Dylan Cummings' name to the list as he became the third golfer to turn the trick this year on Tuesday, but this ace happened in a way you almost always never see on a golf course.
Cummings' hole-in-one happened on the 340-yard par-4 eighth hole. Yes, a par-4; aces usually happen on par-3s. Cummings used a driver, drove the green and the ball did the rest as it rolled into the bottom of the cup to give Cummings a piece of history and what's called an albatross - three-under par on the hole.
Cummings said he had an idea it was going to be close after his drive, but he didn't know it was in the cup at first.
"When we got up to start putting, I was looking around for my ball in the woods and around the green," he said.
After not being able to locate his ball, Cummings said they checked with the group playing in front of him to see if they knew where it may be.
But it was soon found in that magic place.
"One of the guys I was playing with asked me to pull the pin out of the cup (for putting) and that's when I spotted my ball," he said. "It was an amazing feeling."
Cummings' group was playing just the front nine, meaning they had one hole left to go in their round, but he decided to clock out early instead of playing the ninth.
"I went right back to the pro shop and told Kylie (Frederick)," he said.
Frederick, the club's director of golf operations, said she was floored when Cummings informed her of his feat.
"He said 'You won't believe what just happened'," she said. "I was in disbelief. I've golfed with him before and I know he can drive the ball a long way, but hitting a hole-in-one on a par-4? How crazy is that?"
Of course, there are rituals that are usually followed when one aces a hole as part of a group and it can get pricey depending on where you're playing and who you're playing with.
In this case, Cummings said he bought a round for those who were part of his achievement.
"Thankfully, it wasn't too expensive," he said with a laugh.
Believe it or not, Cummings' albatross is not the first ace on a par-4 at the golf club. It has been confirmed that Mark Warren fired an ace on the par-4 third hole while playing a round with Jim Keenan. The only thing that hasn't been confirmed is the exact date when it happened.
Frederick said that will hopefully be confirmed once the club's hole-in-one list is updated.
"(Dylan's) couldn't have happened to a nicer guy," she said. "I've never seen a par-4 hole-in-one, but it was exciting to hear."
