Rankin Inlet Mayor Harry Towtongie says the Jordan's Principle program helped a lot of people in Rankin Inlet and will be greatly missed now that the news is out that it won't be extended for a second year.

It was a grim day in Rankin Inlet on April 28 when the hamlet announced the conclusion of Jordan's Principle and that the hamlet would no longer be distributing the food-voucher program.

Residents were informed that the hamlet had been advised of the decision the previous week.

A statement issued by the municipality noted that the program had been extremely beneficial in reducing food insecurity in Rankin Inlet and the hamlet regretted the loss of the program.

JordanSA国际影视传媒檚 Principle had allowed for $500 per month support each for youth 18 and younger, with an extra $250 for youth aged one day to three years from the Inuit Child First Initiative/JordanSA国际影视传媒檚 Principle programs through partnership with the Indigenous Kids Network of Canada.

Rankin Inlet Mayor Harry Towtongie said JordanSA国际影视传媒檚 Principle affected the community in a number of ways since its inception.

He said the community saw a rise in prices at local stores after the program began and, now that it's come to a close, he hopes to see those prices lower again.

SA国际影视传媒淥f course we're all hoping prices will go back down again now, but, usually, when things go up, boy it's hard to get them to go back down again,SA国际影视传媒 said Towtongie.

SA国际影视传媒淲e really supported the program and we really appreciated the fact that we had it. We're so sorry it had to end. We did our part to try and keep it going, but when there's no money, there's no federal funds to go into it.

Towtongie said the hamlet had been counting on the program continuing and he feels like they got the rug pulled out from under them.

He said everyone is disappointed in the decision to end the funding program.

SA国际影视传媒淲e had reports trickle into us to let us know that it would probably be ending, but we were still kind of hoping not. It is what it is now and we'll just have to find different ways to try and help each other out up here.

SA国际影视传媒淭he program really helped single parents in our community and people with more children in their families. It could have possibly gone a bit further if it just went to people who really, really needed it but, like everyone else, we had to follow the guidelines as they were set out.

SA国际影视传媒淭he end just sort of came out of the blue at us but it happened and that's where we're at. It really helped a lot of people, that's for sure. The kids benefited the most from the program and that was the main thing.

SA国际影视传媒淭he program will definitely be missed.SA国际影视传媒
