City has spent more than $35,000 on Ruth Inch Memorial Pool since it closed

Public consultation on future use of building scheduled for next year

The City of Yellowknife has spent more than $35,000 on the Ruth Inch Memorial Pool (RIMP) since it closed, according to the municipality.

The pool was last open on April 13, with the city's new Aquatic Centre taking its place. The municipality is incurring some costs related to maintenance and utilities to preserve the buildingSA国际影视传媒檚 integrity and ensure it remains viable for future repurposing, according to city communications advisor Saxon Chung.

The $35,000 in expenses covers between April 13 and June 16, 2025, Chung added. Those costs include ongoing site monitoring, security and maintenance.

"Ongoing care is being undertaken to maintain essential systems and staff continue to monitor and maintain the building," said Chung.

Asked for a timeline on what will happen next to the pool, Chung said public consultation on ways to make use of the building is scheduled for the 2026 budget cycle.
