Tuberculosis outbreaks in Pond Inlet and Pangnirtung have been resolved, according to the Department of Health on July 2.
"This decision follows extensive investigation, treatment and follow-up by health professionals in collaboration with community partners and leadership," the Government of Nunavut stated.
In Pangnirtung 47 active cases and 225 latent cases of tuberculosis (TB) were diagnosed over the duration of the outbreak since January 2021, according to the GN. In Pond Inlet, there were 13 active cases and 117 latent cases of the disease dating back to January 2023.
The illness affects the lungs and often causes a bad cough.
"All cases and contacts have been assessed and treated as needed, and the risk of transmission is now low," the territorial government stated. "While the outbreak is over, TB continues to be present in Nunavut and across Canada. We encourage community members to remain aware of TB symptoms and continue to support one another in seeking care."
There was no mention of the status of TB cases in Arviat and Naujaat, where outbreaks have also been declared.
