The iconic polar bear is making a comeback on Nunavut roads.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the territory, the Government of Nunavut has unveiled a brand-new licence plate design in the shape of a polar bear, a nod to the regionSA国际影视传媒檚 cultural identity and past plate designs that became symbols of the North.

The redesigned plate, announced on May 26 by the Department of Community Services, will begin rolling out in early summer 2025 through the Motor Vehicles Division.

SA国际影视传媒淎fter listening to the public feedback over the years, the return of the bear-shaped plate is a proud reminder of who we are as Nunavummiut,SA国际影视传媒 stated Community Services Minister David Akeeagok.

He thanked residents for their patience and support during the upcoming transition.

The licence plate will be issued during regular registration renewals or upon request for those with up-to-date vehicle registration. It will be mandatory for all vehicle types in the territory, including private vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, trailers, commercial and government vehicles and even heavy equipment.

While vehicle owners are welcome to keep their old plates as keepsakes, the new design must be affixed to the rear of all registered vehicles. The plates must also display a valid registration sticker in accordance with the Traffic Safety Act.
