Acknowledging that numerous recent power outages in Iqaluit have been "frustrating," Qulliq Energy Corporation revealed that it is planning to improve its generators in the city.
One new generator is expected to be in use by this summer while another unit is being replaced.
"These efforts will help us restore full capacity and reduce the frequency of outages," Qulliq stated in a news release on May 9.
Iqaluit relies on six generators for its power. Two of them stopped functioning over the winter.
"This reduced capacity means that when even one of the active generators experiences an issue, the entire system is strained, increasing the risk of power outages," Qulliq explained, adding that power to essential services, such as the hospital and airport, is prioritized.
