A 19-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a drug bust in Whati earlier this month.

According to a release from police, multiple tips were received on June 19 by Whati  about a suspected drug dealer operating out of a crawlspace at a residence in the Tlicho community.

With help from the homeowner, who was apparently completely unaware of the person hiding in their crawlspace, police were able to uncover approximately 140 grams of suspected crack-cocaine and approximately $7,000 in cash.

Jeantae Smith of Yellowknife was found in the crawlspace and subsequently arrested. He has since been charged with unlawfully being in a dwelling and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, according to police.

Smith appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was subsequently remanded into custody.

If you have any information that could help police in this or any other case in the community, you're asked to call Whati at 867-573-1111 or submit a tip online to Crime Stoppers at p3tips.com.
