Rob Hedley has spent more than 20 years in the Kivalliq, calling Rankin Inlet, Coral Harbour and Naujaat home at various times during his administrative career.

And, if there's one thing Hedley knows as well as administrative duties, it's music.

He confesses that he's not a huge Beatles fan, but, at the same time, he said he understands the appeal.

He said there is no doubt that 'The Fab Four' are a generational band. That's been more than proven.

"Both the bands Oasis and Sloan borrowed heavily from the Beatles playbook," said Hedley. "To me, those guys write like the Beatles, three-part harmonies, very open lyrics and those types of melodies that are sort of universal and the kind that I like.

"I don't cry. I'm just not that guy. But when Ozzy (Osbourne) passed away, that hit me hard. That was kind of difficult because he was a guy that was a kind of generational figure for me.

"It's music that just speaks to me. Generational talents go on for a long while, like Ozzy Osbourne and the Beatles. What preserved the Beatles was the fact that they didn't go on together. Paul McCartney had his own excellent career and George Harrison, as well.

"Wings, alone, some of the music McCartney produced with them was just amazing. Add that to the Beatles canon and you have a collection of music that was beyond generational."

Hedley said when it comes to the songs of the Beatles, you just don't get that in today's music.

He said something as simple as 'Here Comes The Sun' is one of those songs that just makes you feel good and you don't know why.

"Why is this very simple song so cool? That was the magic of the Beatles. People look at the Beatles as a touchstone, a once-in-a-generation or a once-in-a-lifetime artist or group. At the start, it was almost a K-Pop thingSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½” oh my God they're so cute, but that dies away.

"But their music just kept progressing until it reached the point where it could quite possibly last forever. They were four very talented guys who had this unbelievable synergy between them that just worked.

"All four of them contributed something different and it was just magic. The Beatles always made you feel something and they created music that will be listened to for a very, very long time, which, actually, it already has."
