A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly running a stop sign, fleeing police and crashing into a parked car in Fort Simpson.
say they were called in the early morning hours of Aug. 15 about an individual throwing rocks at vehicles. Police began a patrol for the suspect.
"While on patrol, officers observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign and attempted to initiate a traffic stop," said NT media relations officer Cpl. Josh Seaward. "The vehicle failed to stop for police, who did not pursue for public safety reasons.
"This vehicle was located a short distance away having collided with a parked car. The suspect fled on foot and was subsequently caught and arrested by police. He was confirmed to be the same individual police were initially called about."
A 20-year-old Fort Simpson resident SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½” who was not publicly identified SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½” is charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, failure to stop after an accident, mischief under $5,000 and operating a vehicle without a valid driverSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s licence.
He was released from custody with an order to appear in court at an undisclosed date.
