A standoff at Fort Gary Apartments on Gitzel Street in Yellowknife has been resolved with one suspect taken into custody.
An update was released by Yellowknife shortly after 5:30 p.m. July 11.
"At approximately 1:30 p.m. today, Yellowknife responded to a report of a man posing a threat at the temporary day shelter, on 49 Street," stated NT media relations officer Julie Plourde. "Through investigation, police learned that the man had allegedly made threats with what appeared to be a firearm after being denied food service at the shelter.
Plourde stated that as police were en route to the shelter, the suspect ended up going to Fort Gary.
Multiple units, including G Division Police Dog Service, Traffic Services, Emergency Response Team, and members of G Division Crisis Negotiation Team responded tothe situation, with help from the city's Municipal Enforcement Division.
Plourde stated that the suspect was eventually taken into custody later in the day and charges are pending.
The investigation is ongoing, she added, and that police thank the public for their assistance.
