Inuvik are asking anyone who has knowledge or footage of what happened at Semmler Place on July 15 between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. to come forward after an attempted arson at the building.

Police say they were called to the scene just before 9 a.m. after a report of a residence on fire. When police arrived, the Inuvik Fire Department was already on scene and battling the blaze.

Four individuals were in the house and were able to evacuate the building safely. The building sustained minor damage from the fire.

After the fire was put out, police searched the scene and found a liquor bottle filled with gasoline, which police say they suspect was used to make a Molotov cocktail.

"Inuvik believes that this arson is connected to the illicit drug trade in Inuvik," said NT media relations officer Const. Julie Plourde. "G Division Forensic Identification Unit and the Territorial Crime Reduction Unit are assisting with this investigation. This investigation is ongoing, and no suspect has been identified.

"Anyone with information on this incident, or in possession of dash cam or CCTV footage of the area between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on July 15th are asked to contact Inuvik at 867-777-1111 or Crime Stoppers at https://www.p3tips.com."
