Kelly McLeod has been re-elected Nihtat Gwich'in Council president with 194 votes.
An announcement was published on the Nihtat Gwich'in Council General Election 2025 social media feed shortly before 9 p.m. on June 23.
His lone opponent in the race, Wanda McDonald, collected 70 votes.
McLeod told SA国际影视传媒 earlier this month that among his goals is to continue focusing on initiatives such as the Nihtat Tiny Home Village, which is expected to open in October. He also mentioned the importance of supporting people in their healing journeys to set them up for success as a "key priority."
"We continue to see a complete failure of municipal and territorial government to recognize our rights under the Gwich'in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement, treaty and UNDRIP," he added. "This must change if true reconciliation is the goal. We are rights holders, not stakeholders, and we must be involved in decisions being made that affect our people in a meaningful way, not just window dressing or checking a box."
