Police say they found more than two dozen bottles of vodka hidden in stolen boat's floorboards

say they've intercepted an illegal shipment of alcohol bound for Tulita.

Police say they were alerted on Aug. 16 by community members of three alleged bootleggers arriving in the community by boat.

" members went to the boat launch and started an investigation," stated in an Aug. 21 social media post. "During the initial search, noticed that the floorboards of the boat had been recently opened. Numerous witnesses came forward to say that they have seen one of the suspects loading the boat with alcohol across the river."

Police say they found a large quantity of 1.14 litre bottles of vodka, 25 to be precise, below the boat's floorboards. In addition, they discovered none of the men on the boat owned the vessel and were using it without the owner's consent.

"In addition of charges under the NWT Liquor Act, the three suspects are also facing charges under the Criminal Code for taking a boat without the consent of the owner," wrote . "This investigation is ongoing. Tulita would like to thank the community for their assistance in curbing bootlegging activities in Tulita."
