Athletes and youth ambassadors from the Northwest Territories are in St. John's, Nfld. for the Canada Summer Games.

Kicking off Aug. 8, the gathering of Canadian athletes brings competitors from each province and territory to showcase the finest talent each has to offer.

"The GNWT is proud to support Team NT through financial assistance and a variety of programs that foster the development of athletes and coaches at the local, regional, territorial, and national levels," said Municipal and Community Affairs senior communications advisor Peter Tah. " Best of luck to all athletes, coaches, volunteers and youth ambassadors participating in the 2025 Canada Games."

Joining the over 4,000 athletes from across Canada will be 130-strong from across the NWT. Fort Simpson, Fort Smith, Gamet矛, Hay River, Inuvik, Lutsel KSA国际影视传媒檈, Norman Wells, Tulita, Ulukhaktok and Yellowknife are all contributing talent to Team NT this year. Teams from the territory will compete in athletics, basketball, beach volleyball, soccer, swimming, tennis, volleyball and wrestling. Joining the athletes are 51 coaches, managers and mission staff to support them.

In addition, a team of 13 youth ambassadors aged 16-18 will be volunteering throughout the event as part of the GNWT's participation in the games.

"(The NWT Youth Ambassadors Program) provides youth with a structured and guided volunteer experience at major events, helping them build life and job skills, confidence and leadership," said Tah. "These young leaders deserve recognition for embracing this opportunity to grow and contribute meaningfully to the Games.

Tah also acknowledged volunteers from Sport North Federation and the many territorial sport organizations for their continued volunteering and coaching efforts to bring the athletes to the games.
