Each year, the Sunday on or closest to Aug. 9 is National PeacekeepersSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™ Day in Canada.
The day is designated as a time for Canadians to express their pride and respect towards those in the Canadian Armed Forces, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, provincial and municipal police forces and Canadian diplomats and civilians who have worked to support international peace and security.
Over the years, Canada has provided peacekeeping support in numerous places in the world, including Afghanistan, Cyprus and Syria, as well as efforts in Europe, Africa and elsewhere around the world.
Worldwide, more than 125,000 Canadians have served in peacekeeping missions since 1948. Around 130 have lost their lives as a result.
