Another homeless structure has appeared in Yellowknife.
It's located across from the Niven Gate sign on 48 Street and can be seen when driving toward the downtown area.
It's also unclear when the structure was built or how many people are staying here. On the side of the structure there is a sign that reads "HOME KATHLEEN DON'T STAY."
SA国际影视传媒 has reached out to Housing NWT to see if the territorial government knows anything about this structure. A spokesperson replied saying the department was working on a response. It has also reached out to Peter Adourian, a lawyer representing some homeless encampment residents asking if there's any relation between either structures.
Adourian said he was going to get in contact with some of his clients for more details.
What is known is that the new structure sits on GNWT property. Almost a year to the day, on the same plot of land, homelessness activists built a large, wooden deck so users would have a level place to erect their tents.
That deck was later turned into 8 x 10 ft. pads to accommodate smaller tents and was pushed deeper into the forest. Last summer, a fire burned down the structures and belongings of the homeless residents there.
Neither the city, Fire Marshal's Office, nor investigated the cause of that fire.
SA国际影视传媒 also contacted Dingeman van Bochove and Phoenix Burshan, who helped erect the deck for homeless people last summer. Both said they had no hand in this new structure.
