Ministers responsible for environment and climate change will be meeting in Yellowknife this month.
The Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment is an intergovernmental forum that facilitates joint action on environmental issues. Its current president, Jay Macdonald, minister of Environment and Climate Change for the territorial government, will host the meeting at the Explorer Hotel on July 4.
On July 2, Julie Dabrusin, minister of Environment and Climate Change for the federal government, is expected to announce funding to support five clean energy projects in Alberta and the NWT.
Fourteen ministers will gather to discuss issues such as air quality and the relationship between contaminated sites, climate change and reconciliation.
Following a closed meeting, ministers will hold a news conference.
In general, the council has four current priorities. They include managing pollution, reducing waste, advancing climate initiatives and collaborating on emerging environmental issues and opportunities, according to the council's website.
The role of president within the council changes among the ministers annually. They try to meet at least once a year.
