Federal agency investigating helicopter crash near Behchoko

Transportation Safety Board sending a team to figure out cause of incident on Monday that killed pilot

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is sending investigators after a helicopter crash registered to Great Slave Helicopters near Behchoko on July 15.

A release Tuesday morning stated that the TSB will gather information and assess what happened.

Behchoko stated they were notified of an aircraft crashing approximately 1.5 km from Highway 3 near the community. A release from the police stated officers went to the crash site and provided emergency assistance. CPR was administered to the pilot, but the crash ultimately claimed the pilotSA国际影视传媒檚 life.

The pilot was also the only person on board, according to . No further information was made immediately available.

This is the second incident involving a Great Slave Helicopters vehicle in the last year. A pilot was killed in a crash in Fort Good Hope in June 2024 while fighting wildfires near the community. 

The TSB determined that the helicopter experienced a main rotor blade separation from the head shortly after taking off from Fort Good Hope Airport. 

The remaining rotor blade and rotor head separated from the mast almost immediately after and the helicopter then collided with the ground, resulting in a post-impact fire. 

The TSB is an independent agency that investigates air, marine, pipeline, and rail transportation occurrences in hopes of improving transportation safety. It does not assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
