An alleged assault in Cambridge Bay earlier this month has resulted in four people being charged as a result.

According to a release from police on Friday afternoon, officers were called to the community's health centre just after 4 a.m. in the early morning of July 8 with the report being that two men had been assaulted.

The initial investigation uncovered that two male suspects, both known to the victims, apparently assaulted them with a weapon in a residence on Tuktu Street. The injuries were serious enough that both victims were flown south for further treatment.

Two days later, officers from Cambridge Bay , with help from the Iqaluit detachment's General Investigative Section, arrested four people in relation to what happened.

The accused includes Hadi Alhashesh, 19, of Chilliwack, B.C.; Ly Gabriel Galido, 22, of Edmonton; and Ayaan Kamran Warsi, 18, of Edmonton. All three have been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm without a licence, two counts of forcible confinement, two counts of pointing a firearm, trafficking a controlled substance, possession of property obtained by crime and robbery with a firearm.

Alhashesh, Galido and Warsi were remanded into custody with their next court appearance is scheduled for July 29 in Iqaluit. This is not the first time Galido has been in trouble with police in the North. He was charged with multiple offences following an incident of alleged forcible confinement in Hay River, NWT, back in February.

The fourth accused, Joshua MacPherson, 19, of Cambridge Bay, has been charged with two counts of assault. He was released from custody with his next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 8 in Cambridge Bay.

The release added that the investigation is ongoing and if you have information that could help police, you're asked to call Cambridge Bay at 867-983-0123 or call Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 if you want to remain anonymous.
