Premier R.J. Simpson is standing behind Health and Social Services Minister Lesa Semmler, despite criticisms from MLAs.

On Thursday, Robert Hawkins, Richard Edjericon, and Kieron Testart issued a joint statement that said the both Semmler and Simpson have "failed to demonstrate adequate leadership" when it comes to improving the NWT healthcare system.

The statement also reads the trio is ready to support confidence motions if things don't start improving.

In response, Simpson said he has "full confidence" in Semmler.

"She has demonstrated steady, solutions-focused leadership and has taken tangible, necessary steps SA国际影视传媒 including appointing a Public Administrator to help stabilize the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority SA国际影视传媒 to ensure decisions reflect the best interests of our valued health care providers and all residents," the premier said.

Simpson is referring to when Semmler replaced the NWT Health and Social Services Authority's (NTHSSA) leadership council with a public administrator. The GNWT had argued the council was not fit to meet the needs of the current health and social services system.

"Across Canada, jurisdictions are grappling with provider shortages, growing demand, and mounting pressures on the system," said Simpson. "Through it all, Minister Semmler has remained focused on meeting these challenges head-on through practical and collaborative efforts that strengthen care and support Northerners in every community."

He added that Semmler and the rest of cabinet are committed to working in good faith with all MLAs.

"Through unity, cooperation, and a shared commitment to serving the public, we will continue delivering meaningful progress for the people and communities of the Northwest Territories," he said.
