A Fort Smith man is facing criminal charges after allegedly assaulting another person with a firearm, although police state no shots were fired in the incident.
Police say they were called to a residence on May 31, shortly after 5 p.m., after receiving a report the suspect had struck another individual with a firearm.
"No shots were reported to have been fired," stated NT media relations officer Cpl. Josh Seaward. "Officers attended the residence and arrested the subject without incident. The residence was held by police while a search warrant was obtained."
Seaward said police searched the residence on June 1. In that process, they found found ammunition and an unspecified "quantity" of cash, but no firearm.
Terron Stevens, 32, of Fort Smith, is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a weapon contrary to a weapons prohibition order, assault with a weapon and possession of a firearm while knowing possession is unauthorized. He appeared before a justice of the peace and remains in custody.
