A woman in Aklavik is facing three charges after allegedly firing a shotgun at a man.

Police were called at 2:33 a.m. on June 13 after a man checked into the Susie Husky Health Centre with a gunshot wound, according to NT media relations officer Cpl. Josh Seaward, who confirmed the details on July 30.

Upon investigating, police accused the woman of shooting at the man, striking him with several birdshot pellets.

"With the assistance of G Division Forensic Identification Services, a search warrant was executed on a residence in the community," said Seaward. "The female was arrested and several firearms were seized."

Shandel McLeod, 41, of Aklavik, is charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a firearm while knowing possession is unauthorized and discharging a firearm while being reckless. She appeared before a justice of the peace and was later released with conditions imposed by the court.
