GNWT fires Fort Resolution housing board, appoints administrator

'Operational challenges' made change necessary, says Housing NWT

Housing Minister Lucy Kuptana has dismissed the Fort Resolution Housing Authority board of directors and appointed auditor Darlene Berthier as administrator.

Housing NWT has dismissed the Fort Resolution Housing Authority board of directors and appointed an administrator, citing "operational challenges" with the board.

"The minister of Housing Northwest Territories (Housing NWT) has determined that it has become necessary to place the Fort Resolution Housing Authority under administration due to operational challenges," said Housing NWT communications manager Jeanne Gard on July 25. "It is an exceptional measure that has been deemed necessary to stabilize operations and address the challenges the Housing Authority is facing.

"The GNWT made every effort to work collaboratively with the Fort Resolution Housing Authority to address areas of concern SA国际影视传媒 the decision to place it under administration became necessary to protect housing services and ensure stability," Gard added.

Career auditor Darlene Berthier will replace the board. She will remain in the position until the minister determines otherwise. As administrator, Berthier will oversee management and ensure Housing NWT policies and procedures are followed. She holds all the same powers and authority as the housing board would have.

The GNWT says it will strive to make sure housing services will not be interrupted during the transition and support services will be available through the South Slave District Office.

While no timeline has been set for a new board election, the territorial government says the aim is to get the housing situation in the community back to standard and then hold elections.
