Two days after the South Slave region experienced a blackout due to diesel engine failure during a heat wave, the power in Hay River is out again.

"We are experiencing technical difficulties with one of the generators in the plant, crews are working on resolving this issue," the NWT Power Corporation stated shortly after 10 a.m on Aug. 1. "We appreciate your patience and understanding. Next update will be at 11:00."

Several equipment malfunctions plagued the power corp's diesel plant following a transition from hydroelectric to complete upgrades on the Taltson hydroelectric dam. Hay River, Enterprise and K'atl'odeeche First Nation were without power for much of July 30, while temperatures rose to near 30 C on July 30.

An air quality warning and a heat warning are both in effect for Hay River, Enterprise and KFN.
