No time for postal strike

Canada Post doesn't have the support or sympathy for another work stoppage, says Mike Shouldice

A Canada Post strike has the potential to negatively affect Northern residents far more than it does their southern counterparts.

Longtime Kivalliq resident Mike Shouldice said during the last postal strike in 2024, Rankin Inlet residents had a huge volume of items coming in the mail, pointing out that online shopping is one of the community's major activities and through the mail is the cheapest method of shipping things, shy of someone carrying it.

Shouldice said it took him three months to get everything that was scattered all over following the 2024 postal strike.

He said he was, however, impressed with the fact he didn't lose a single item when all was said and done.

SA国际影视传媒淔or this one, I just don't think they have the sympathy or support for a strike again,SA国际影视传媒 said Shouldice. SA国际影视传媒淭hey need to redefine Canada Post.

SA国际影视传媒淚f the market has shifted so that it really is no longer writing letters to people, and is mainly online shopping, then why don't they just realign their system to do that?

SA国际影视传媒淪ometimes the mail just sits and it sits for 60 days somewhere. There was always the mystery of where that was. If you wanted to order something in a timely manner, forget it.

Shouldice said nobody writes letters to anyone anymore. The last human being he wrote a cursive letter to passed away three or four years ago, he added.

SA国际影视传媒淗e was the only person I used to write to for years. Going back before that, pen pals were a thing of my parents' generation.

SA国际影视传媒淚f you have special needs like eye glasses or drugs SA国际影视传媒 we truly need a postal service to send items North like that. It isn't like we're shopping for luxury items.

SA国际影视传媒淓ye glasses all get mailed and special prescriptions come up that way. There's lots of things that people need for health and welfare that come through the mail.

SA国际影视传媒淎nd, with no postal service, you would have to have some kind of an expediting service to send them, and then the price skyrockets. Another strike again this year is simply not acceptable.SA国际影视传媒
