Statistics Canada estimated Nunavut's population to be 41,414 people as of the first quarter of 2025.

That marked a 1.5 per cent increase from 40,794 residents during the first quarter of 2024. It also reflects five straight quarters of growth.

There were 803 births and 229 deaths in Nunavut in 2024, according to Statistics Canada. That resulted in a net gain of 574 people via natural increase.

Between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024, there was a net loss of 114 people through migration.

During that same period, the Qikiqtaaluk region added 334 people through all means and the Kivalliq region jumped by 126 residents. The Kivalliq region, however, declined by one person, according to Statistics Canada.

The territory's relatively young population breaks down as 64.6 per cent of people in the territory being between 15 and 64 years of age while 30.6 per cent fall in the 14 and under category and just 4.8 per cent of the population was 65 or older, as of July 1, 2024.

In comparison, the national population is considerably older, with 65.9 per cent in the 15 to 64 years category, 18.9 per cent in the 65 years and older group and 15.2 per cent ages 14 and under.

Men made up 50.7 per cent of the population (20,867 people) in Nunavut compared to 49.3 per cent for women (20,272), as of July 1, 2024, Statistics Canada data shows.

According to the 2021 census, 84.3 per cent of Nunavut's population identified as Inuit. The next census is set to take place in 2026.
