Colville Lake man arrested after firearm incident in community

A Colville Lake man is facing multiple charges after Fort Good Hope had to charter a flight to the community to deal with reports of gunshots.

Police say they received a call at roughly 6 a.m. on Aug. 9, reporting that shots had been fired in the air and at a shed by an intoxicated person in Colville Lake. The suspect also allegedly made threats against another person.

Police in Fort Good Hope chartered a flight and were in the remote community shortly before noon that day as Colville Lake is only accessible by air. There's also no detachment in the community and is serviced by police in Fort Good Hope. 

Upon arriving, police established a critical incident command and requested assistance from Yukon and the NT Emergency Response Team.

"The suspect was located shortly thereafter at his residence, unarmed, and arrested without further incident," said NT media relations officer Julie Plourde. "A search of the suspectSA国际影视传媒檚 residence resulted in the discovery of several firearms and ammunition, which were seized. 

"The investigation is ongoing. No one sustained injuries during this operation."

Shawn Tobac, 32, is charged with uttering threats against a person, careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized and two counts of unsafe storage of firearms. He was taken to Fort Good Hope and remains in custody, with a scheduled appearance in Territorial Court on Aug. 12.
