Tuktoyaktuk have presented Noella Cockney with a special award recognizing her family's multi-generational dedication to the police force.

Detachment commander Sgt. Chris Whynot presented multiple awards to her during a community barbecue on May 16.

Cockney has worked for the for 20 years, now serving as the detachment's administrative assistant. She also serves as the community's chief coroner, heads the local Canadian Coast Guard auxiliary unit and, in her spare time, teaches crafts at Aurora College.

Her late father, Special Const. Bill Cockney, was known for helping other officers learn to survive and work in the North. Her mother, Lucy Cockney, often served as a translator for police officers as well as fulfilling numerous other support roles.

In honour of their over five decades of combined service, Noella was presented the Generational Service Insignia. She was also bestowed the G Division Spousal Support Medallion on behalf of her mother.

The celebrations were part of National Police Week.
