Sienna Andrew is getting a head start on her working life.

At age 15, she's wrapping up a summer job with at the Hamlet of Tulita's office, working as an assistant and helping the team with whatever jobs they need.

While she says she enjoys the role, it was actually her second choice.

"I was trying to apply to work at the arena, but the job was full so I ended up with the hamlet," she said. "I like doing the pre-employment training.

"Two ladies came from Yellowknife to do training and we got to be a part of it. It helped us learn more about office work."

Hamlet of Tulita senior administrative officer Samantha Bayha told SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½ that 21 students were hired in 2025.

Each student was given the opportunity to choose the department they wanted to work in, such as administration, recreation, public works and gardens.

"Each department has been thriving with the support and enthusiasm of our students," Bayha said. "Our recreation team is hosting daily summer day camps from Monday to Friday. Public works students have been working hard to beautify the community by cutting grass and maintaining public spaces, while students in the gardens department are assisting with greenhouse produce and outdoor maintenance.

"Our administration students have been working closely with me to learn the day-to-day operations of municipal governance. ISA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™m especially proud to share that three of our admin students recently completed a pre-employment training program through Aspire Training Academy. They received their certificates today, along with a surprise gift SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½” a laptop SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½” which they were very excited and grateful to receive."

Now that she's almost wrapped up her summer job, Andrew said she's looking forward to getting back to school.

Her ambitions lie far from the office, however.

Going into Grade 10, she says she's already got an eye on post-secondary.

"I want to work with kids at a pre-school," she said, adding that she hasn't narrowed down which colleges to apply to yet.
